Outzen was excluded from heat 1, when Stenka caused a first bend crash, spearing Ahlund on the first corner, with the consequence of a broken thigh and a broken hip for the unlucky Swede. Stenka was excluded. Conny Ivarsson, the Swedish team's reserve, came in for the re-run, which he won from Germany's Christoph Preis (two riders only). In heat 5 Zaluski knocked off Outzen, the Pole was excluded and the Dane was injured and unable to continue. Danish reserve Allan Johansen took his place in the re-run.

For the second meeting on the following day at Neuenknick, three teams were without their reserve riders, Patrick Ahlund, John Outzen and Dariusz Stenka were all injured on the previous day at Nordhastedt. Poland were further depleted to just three riders when Wojciech Zaluski was injured in a pre-meeting practise crash at Neuenknick. Klaus Lausch replaced Peter Hehlert in the German team.
