Dicky Bird was injured in a heavy fall in a handicap race prior to the international team match. The accident resulted in a strong rib contusion with probable fracture of the third and fifth ribs, which ruled him out for the rest of the meeting. Bird was substituted for the team event by a rider from Madrid, Jose Marín, who took his place in the English team | ||||||
