South Africa's Henry Long missed the first two Tests as he was still riding in England. Fred Wills suffered a leg injury when he hit the fence in heat 6 of the 1st.Test, later rode again, and then went to hospital and was ruled out of the 2nd.Test. For Europe, Metzelaar broke a leg in a second-half crash at Johannesburg on 24.10 when he fell and was hit by both Hofmeister and Doug Lang. He was replaced by Dalton for the remainder of the series.
Bertil Carlsson II was the son of the rider of the same name, who came 2nd in the first Swedish Championships in 1936. At this time (1952) the father was still riding in Sweden, in the same team as his son.
