UNOFFICIAL Mon 15.02 : Auckland (Western Springs) New Zealand 13 England 13
Sat 20.02 : Wellington (Kilbirnie) New Zealand v. England Cancelled due to rain

Auckland
The New Zealand team comprised Alf Mattson, Charlie Goldberg, and Clarrie Tonks. Wally Kilmister had also been due to ride, but he injured his thigh early in the meeting and had to withdraw.
The England team was Roger Frogley, Nobby Key, and Tom Farndon, although Farndon injured his thumb in the first race and could not take all of his rides
The match consisted of 6 races.
Heats 1 to 3 were "match races" (i.e one rider from each country), scoring 2 pts for a win, 1 pt for second, and 0 pts for a non-finisher.
Heats 4 to 6 were "teams races" (2 riders from each country), scoring the traditional 3-2-1-0.
The "Auckland Star" report reads "The New Zealand team showed fine sporting spirit when, with a handy lead, they decided to halve [share] the points in one race". This is assumed to be heat 5.
Thus the heat results were :
Ht.1 Mattson, Farndon f 79.4 2-0 2-0
Ht.2 Key, Goldberg 82.2 1-2 3-2
Ht.3 Goldberg, Frogley 82.6 2-1 5-3
Ht 4 Mattson, Key, Frogley, Kilmister ns 78.2 3-3 8-6
Ht.5 Goldberg, Tonks, Frogley, Farndon ns 78.4 5-1, but heat shared so 3-3 11-9
Ht.6 Frogley, Mattson, Key, Kilmister ns 80.8 2-4 13-13
One of the more bizarre international matches! The meeting included a full programme of handicap racing - not to mention flat and hurdle Whippet Races!

Wellington (Kilbirnie)
Scheduled teams for this cancelled Test were to be as follows:
New Zealand : Wally Kilmister, Alf Mattson, Charlie Goldberg and Clarrie Tonks
England : Tom Farndon, Nobby Key, Roger Frogley and Jack Bishop (Australia; Guest)
{short description of image} On the left is a newspaper advertisement
from the "Wellington Evening Post", for
the "Test" match at Kilbirnie, which never
took place.

1951-52 12.02 : Hastings (Hawke's Bay) New Zealand 31 England 17
UNOFFICIAL This had been planned as the first match in a series, but a knee injury to Freddie Williams in his last ride meant that the series was abandoned. In each of the 8 races in this match, the existing track record was either equalled or broken, finishing with the unbeaten Ronnie Moore as the new record holder. Ronnie Moore 12 Norman Parker 7
Bruce Abernethy 11 Freddie Williams 6
Maury Dunn 5 Gil Craven 3
Ron Johnston 3 Bill Osborne 1
{short description of image} {short description of image}
The photo above comes from a 1972-73 programme, and Jack Hart is listed as a member of the New Zealand team in place of Ronnie Moore. It is also states that the match was at Napier, which is incorrect - there was no track at Napier in 1952.
