"International Matchracing"
Australia 36 (Wally Kilmister, Tim Wilkinson, Clarrie Tonks)
England 27 (Roger Frogley, Harold Stevens, Norman Evans)
David Austin writes: The contest consisted of 9 heats with each rider racing against each of their opponents in match races. Winners received 5 points and losers two points. Known results are as follows: Wally Kilmister beat Roger Frogley (5-2) Wally Kilmister beat Harold Stevens (5-2) Wally Kilmister beat Norman Evans (5-2) Clarrie Tonks beat Roger Frogley (5-2) The score from these 4 races would have been Australia 20 England 8. Therefore, the remaining five heats would have been scored 19-16 in favour of the English. A couple of other points: Wilkinson’s first name was Tim and why did the NSW’s "Referee" newspaper refer to the Kilmister/ Wilkinson/ Tonks team as Australia as they were all New Zealanders?!?!
